So I entered a contest.
It was for the 'Ultimate Holiday Cookie'.
So I am brainstorming about what the 'ultimate' cookie looks like and reading through the contest rules and stumble upon some crazy line that the contestant had to be in the picture with the cookies.
Well, there goes my shot of winning.
I decided to bite the bullet and entered anyway.
Here are my cookies.
(I cant figure out why they look blurry on my blog but not in photoshop)
It was super easy to do! I just used some green royal icing and piped out the leaf shape on some parchment paper. Then used the cookie cutter I used on the cookies to cut out a piece of fondant. I placed the fondant on the cookie, attached the leaves with royal icing, then added words.
Easy!
Here is the dreaded picture that includes me.
I am really only including it so that I can complain a little...
See... the cookies had to lay flat... so that meant that the picture had to be taken from above or else you wouldn't be able to see them... but even still... it is so far away I feel like all the detail is lost.
Not to mention I could have put on some makeup or combed my hair a little! Ugh.
Maybe next time I will think of a design that will allow me to tilt up the cookie so it can be taken from a normal perspective.
Thank you for letting me complain. I feel like I have learned a valuable lesson here.
(I did right? What was it again?)
Oh, I hope you win...these are fabulous! I love that idea for the holly leaves. I may be borrowing it...and giving you credit, of course! ;)

They're beautiful, and I don't belive you when you say "Easy!", LOL! No way, not for me, says someone who's never even tried to be so artful with something destined to be eaten...

Wow... stunning cookies as usual! :) I don't know how you do it. And... good looking Mama... not to worry there... though I do hear you about not liking to get my picture taken.
Best wishing with the contest. Your cookies are amazing... so hopefully you will win.
God bless you,

You could have 'glued' the cookies to the plate using powdered sugar and water.. that way the plate could have been tilted for a 'normal' photo.. Just a thought ;)
I LOVE how these turned out.. they look amazing! I'd never have enough patience (not to mention the steady hand) to make such beautiful cookies.. VERY well done!
Greetings from the netherlands!

Those cookies are incredible. I love your work and it has become one of my goals to learn how to do it even half like you. But after seeing my first attempt (photos in flickr) I have a long way to go.

I strive to pipe words on my cakes and cookies like you. Do you have your recipe for royal icing somewhere on your site? I would like one that gets really hard but is easy to work with.
Nice work.

These cookies are so festive that they automatically bring a smile to my face! My siblings and I make an annual gingerbread house, but I want to try making cookies this year too. :)

Yesterday I was randomly looking over my Amazon profile, and found a list I made of products that help build fine-motor skills in babies, toddlers, and children. I wrote it in 2007 when Jake was 5 and in still in Occupational Therapy - we were really focusing at the time on his fine motor skills. I owe a lot of what I know about such things to our lovely O.T. Rachael, and to many of the books I have listed to the right.
I think a lot of people would be surprised how easy it is to start including fine-motor activities in playtime . . . especially since so many really fun things help to build those skills! Many of you are probably already doing some of these activities with your children and not realizing how great they are for development of course.

My neighbor thinks sometimes she'd rather just have her whole jaw knocked out in a fight. She has a chronic fear of the dentist but she has cavities & needs braces. It seems like it's really effecting her socially and emotionally. She tells me she wants to have a perfect smile badly but can't bring herself to do it.
How can I help her?

The article says that due to the uncooperative nature of the woman and the boy, they could only charge her with endangering a minor. No sex charges. She'll get a slap
on the wrist.

Mmmm, looks absolutely delicious. I used to look forward to Caribbean black cake at weddings and other special events. Then I became a vegan, and that was the end of that. I'd love to sample this! Any chance you'd be willing to share the recipe? :)
